Dear MPES Families,
Happy March! As we welcome a new month, we are excited for the learning, growth, and special moments that spring will bring to our school community. March is always a busy and joyful time, and we look forward to continuing to partner with you to support our students as they soar.
This week, we are celebrating Read Across America Week! A special thank you to Theresa Hayden for organizing a fun and engaging Spirit Week for our students and staff. We appreciate her leadership in helping us make reading come alive and promoting a love of books across our school community.
Here is our Spirit Week lineup:
-
Monday: Wear your favorite team jersey to kick the week off.
-
Tuesday: Wear a shirt with an animal or animal print to show that books bring out our wild side.
-
Wednesday: Wear your favorite hat.
-
Thursday: Wear sunglasses or bright colors.
-
Friday: Dress up as your favorite book character.
We are also excited about our upcoming Cougar Literacy Run on Saturday, May 2nd! This special event celebrates both literacy and healthy habits while bringing our school community together in a fun and meaningful way. We hope our students are enjoying the reading challenge that started in February and will end on March 17th. Each grade level has a different goal sheet, so please reach out to your child's Canvas account for more information. Students will have from February 17 to March 17th to complete their reading challenge. By completing their reading challenge, students will earn a FREE race t-shirt and bookmark; that would otherwise cost a total of $17.We look forward to cheering on our students as they run toward strong reading goals!
March is also a month of cultural awareness and celebration. Throughout the month, we recognize:
-
Women’s History Month: Celebrating the contributions and achievements of women throughout history.
-
Greek-American Heritage Month
-
Irish-American Heritage Month (All Month):Celebrates Irish culture and contributions in the US.
-
Nowruz (March 20/21): The Persian New Year, marking the vernal equinox and spring renewal.
-
Holi: Known as the Hindu festival of colors and love, celebrating spring.
-
Pi Day: (March 14)
-
St. Patrick’s Day (March 17): Irish cultural celebration.
-
National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month: Promoting understanding, inclusion, and respect for individuals with developmental disabilities.
-
Ramadan: A holy month of reflection, prayer, and community observed by members of the Muslim faith.
We are proud of our diverse and inclusive school community and are committed to helping our students learn about and appreciate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions that make our community strong.
We can’t wait to see our students’ creativity and school spirit on display throughout the week! Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making our school such a vibrant and joyful place to learn.
Let’s make March a month full of reading, learning, and soaring to new heights!
Warmly,
